Xero and QuickBooks are two leading accounting software solutions designed to simplify financial management for businesses. While they share common functionalities, there are key differences that can influence your choice between the two.

One of the most significant distinctions is the user interface and overall user experience. Xero is renowned for its intuitive and user-friendly interface, making it accessible even for those with limited accounting experience. QuickBooks, on the other hand, offers a robust feature set but may have a steeper learning curve due to its comprehensive nature.

Another important factor to consider is scalability. Xero is a cloud-based accounting software that is particularly well-suited for small to medium-sized businesses. It allows for easy collaboration among team members and provides the flexibility to access your financial data from anywhere with an internet connection. QuickBooks, while also offering cloud-based options, is known for its scalability...

Who is Xero best for according to our reviewers?

  • Accountants and Financial Advisors: Xero is a great tool for these professionals due to its open-platform ethos and features like Cash Coding and Find & Recode. The software also allows for easy import and undoing of bank transactions

  • Dissatisfied Users of Other Accounting Software: Users who find other accounting software like Sage Line 50 and Quickbooks complex and lacking in essential features and integrations may find Xero a better alternative. However, they should be aware of the occasional challenges in setting up bank feeds and the limitations in reporting.

  • Startups: Xero is beneficial for startup founders who often juggle various roles. The dashboard provides a clear overview of the company's performance and helps in managing the runway. However, they might find the lack of inbuilt payroll support a drawback

  • Remote Teams: Teams that do not operate from a central office will find Xero's online feature particularly useful. The software allows for easy sharing of access with team members and accountants

  • Small Business Owners: These users will appreciate Xero's user-friendly interface and the ability to handle financial matters independently. The software offers clear reporting, seamless invoicing, and simple account reconciliation

Accounting Anywhere, Anytime? Xero's Got You Covered!

I used to depend on Excel for all my accounting needs, but Xero has surpassed all my expectations. I would suggest Xero to everyone! The software has a user-friendly interface and integrates seamlessly with other software for easy recordkeeping. It even lets me share access with my accountant, simplifying my life significantly. Initially, I had some difficulty setting up a CSV file for bank integration, but once I got the hang of it, everything went smoothly. I switched to Xero because it provided a better deal and, in my view, a more attractive interface.

Exploring Xero: A Challenging Yet Exciting Journey

I recently had the opportunity to try out Xero through a special offer from my Monzo business account, which promised a free 6-month trial. The process was a bit of a treasure hunt, but I love a good challenge! I set up a Xero account, but the option to join wasn't immediately visible. After a bit of detective work on third-party forums, I discovered that the link was actually within the Monzo app. Unfortunately, since I had already set up my account, the link was no longer active. But hey, no problem! I understand that Xero reserves their support access for subscribed members, which makes sense. Their support pages are like a maze, but I enjoy navigating through them. It's like a puzzle waiting to be solved! I haven't found a way to delete my Xero account yet, but I'm sure it's just another adventure waiting for me. In the meantime, I'm considering giving Freeagent a try. It's always exciting to explore new software and who knows, I might find it even more thrilling!

Excellent Accounting Solution for Small/Medium Businesses

I find Xero user-friendly, cloud-based, and packed with essential features and integrations for our business. However, the support can be disappointing at times. We switched to Xero from Quickbooks due to its complexity and unsatisfactory integrations.

Struggling to Reach Xero and More

I want to share my experience with Xero Accounting. Xero doesn't provide any direct contact options, only through their non-customer friendly Xero Central. They don't accept phone calls, emails, or offer chat support. Their customer service is the worst I've encountered in my 200 years of working with software packages. I strongly recommend anyone considering Xero to research thoroughly first. They don't listen to their customers and have ignored requests for basic accounting features for about a decade. Once you start using an accounting package, it's difficult to switch, but I assure you, you'll want to once you experience how terrible this company is. They show little regard for their paying customers and overlook basic issues. There are countless negatives with Xero. They are unreachable, so if you encounter a problem, it will persist. You can't close a VAT return period, allowing anyone to amend an invoice.
