The feature I value most in Datadog is its ability to compare all data received from our platform, including platform status, network status, performance traces, and logs. This greatly assists in identifying issues that would be challenging to find manually. However, Datadog does have some shortcomings. For example, it could use a self-remediation tool. Since every server already has a Datadog agent installed, it would be extremely helpful if we could add, edit, or delete custom checks in Python through the UX. It would also be advantageous if we could automate some actions programmed in the UX to work and integrate with escalation policies and alerts. We switched to Datadog from Pandora because Pandora wasn't scaling as we expected and we were looking for a unified product that could meet all our needs, such as server monitoring, database monitoring, and APM.

The licensing model may seem a bit complex at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's actually quite straightforward. I initially wanted to monitor databases only, but I found the infrastructure monitoring to be an unexpected bonus. It's like getting two for the price of one! After three months of using Datadog, I can confidently say that their support team is incredibly knowledgeable about database monitoring with their product. Despite the timezone differences (I'm based in the UK), they always manage to send a response just as my workday ends, which gives me something to look forward to the next day. The support team is always eager to help and they go above and beyond to ensure that any issues are resolved promptly.
