I consider Datadog to be an excellent tool for monitoring, alerting, log analysis, and synthetics. It's especially beneficial for small startups and integrates seamlessly. I value having alerts, metrics, and log aggregation all in one location. The Website Synthetics feature is also quite handy. However, the cost of data ingestion can sometimes be high if not managed properly. I opted for Datadog because it provided a comprehensive observability and log analysis solution. Other tools I looked at were either good at observability or log analysis, forcing me to buy multiple products.

I utilized Datadog for querying and analyzing logs when we faced issues on our platform like bugs, stability, and performance. I appreciated its searching and filtering capabilities. However, I experienced more stability issues in the past year than usual, which was troublesome when needing real-time access to logs. I had the opportunity to explore Datadog's product yesterday. After signing up for an account, I was able to navigate through their platform and understand their pricing model. While it didn't seem like the perfect fit for our company at this time, I was impressed by the level of customer service I received. When I decided to delete my account, I found that the process was a bit more involved than simply clicking 'delete my account' on their website. However, this led me to interact with their 'live chat' feature. Although it's primarily for tech support or sales, I was able to connect with a sales team member who was understanding and helpful. They promised to forward my request to the account management team, which I appreciated. What really stood out to me was the follow-up email I received from their commercial account executive. They wanted to check in and see how I was getting on with the trial, offering to spare 15-2 minutes of their time. While I had already made my decision, I was touched by their dedication to customer satisfaction. Initially, I was a bit hesitant about their pricing model, but their customer service has left a positive impression on me. I may not be continuing with them at this moment, but their customer retention practices have definitely made me consider returning in the future.

Before I started using Datadog, my logging and monitoring were spread across various services, some of which were self-developed and others cloud-based. However, with Datadog, I was able to consolidate everything into one place, and the resulting synergy has been incredible. If you can afford it, I highly recommend Datadog. It's an outstanding product that continues to improve every day, particularly if you're using multiple clouds. There are many integrations available that offer ready-made dashboards and metrics. Logs are easy to ingest from virtually anywhere. While it's expensive, the pricing is straightforward and easy to keep track of. It's costly, there's no other way to put it, but they strive to make it worth your while, and for me, it is. I can't think of any downsides beyond that. I chose Datadog because it was the only option that allowed me to consolidate everything into one product. I switched to Datadog because I needed to centralize all monitoring and alerts.
