I appreciate how Forecastr provides a unified view of our operations. It keeps our management updated on project schedules and our employees informed about their future allocations. This helps us avoid scheduling conflicts during project planning and identify where we went wrong if timelines are missed. Reporting and planning of project timelines is straightforward with Forecastr. Once familiar with the user interface, it's easy to report on timelines and view data. I particularly like the ability to zoom in and out to adjust the granularity of data. It's easy to understand what's happening with just a glance at the screen. However, setting up clients, employees, and projects can be a bit tedious. Although it's easy to modify or edit once everything is set up, getting everything in order initially took some time. Additionally, slower page load times on the app made onboarding a bit of a challenge.

What distinguishes it from others is its ability to calculate costs based on time spent. This is a significant advantage as it allows me to see the benefit of each project in real time, understand when a project is profitable or not, and project profits. It also helps me identify when a project is taking longer than expected and how this affects the company's profits. However, it lacks some project management tools and can sometimes be overly simplistic, which can be a disadvantage when I need comprehensive management functionalities.

The software, Forecastr, works perfectly in my organization as long as we have the necessary project management skills to balance its functions with the needs of our team. However, I don't think it's suitable for agile environments. Together with its partner Harvest, Forecastr forms a powerful tool that assists in planning any team-based work. The process is straightforward, and the interface is easy to comprehend. Setting up is a breeze and managing new projects in Forecastr is simple. I can be as detailed or as high-level as I want. It's ideal for traffic management, but not so much for creativity. It's not designed for agile environments, and it's very easy for me as a project manager to focus on turning red into green (a person is over their budgeted time versus a person has time to do the work) rather than considering what I'm actually dividing or assigning. This can be a significant issue in creative environments where team members may need large amounts of time for thinking, creating, or researching.

An Almost Excellent SaaS Tool for Project Management
I use Asana and Forecast to manage task time allocation and plan our resource allocation. Harvest Forecast is effective for planning work schedules over the next few weeks, but not as much for long-term project management. I use Harvest Forecast daily and it's crucial to my business. However, for long-term forecasts, I use spreadsheets and Asana, which is why I've given it one less star. I believe this is not a fault of the software itself, but our workflow process from Asana that makes it clumsy. Still, Harvest Forecast is good, stable, well-written software. It's reasonably priced and one of the best methods to accurately forecast project-based work. It's easy to use and serves as a reliable forecast management tool for us. The ease of use is significant, as we've tried many other project management tools that were too complicated to set up. The integration with Harvest itself, a time tracker, is beneficial.

From Harvest to Forecastr: A Seamless Transition You'll Appreciate
I find Forecastr extremely user-friendly, particularly its calendar feature which is clear and easy to understand. I used to use Harvest, but it had some issues, especially with its "scheduling assistant" feature which often malfunctioned. However, Forecastr excels in this area, making time tracking and coordination with colleagues very simple. On the downside, if you're transitioning from Harvest, you'll have to manually transfer all features one by one, which can be time-consuming. Also, if you're not working on a specific project but are involved in internal projects or helping a colleague with theirs, it can be challenging to track time because you need a preset "task" to do so. I suggest having a general "internal" task to track time for work that doesn't relate to an existing project. I switched to Forecastr for better integration with Jira.
