What is Sitefinity?

Sitefinity is a comprehensive web content management system (CMS) developed by Telerik. It's designed to help businesses create and manage digital experiences across various devices. The CMS offers a user-friendly interface with drag-and-drop functionality, making it easy for non-technical users to manage websites. Sitefinity supports multi-site management, personalization, multilingual content, and includes built-in SEO tools. It also integrates with third-party systems like CRM, marketing automation, and analytics tools. Built on .NET technology, Sitefinity ensures robustness and scalability. It's suitable for businesses of all sizes looking to enhance their online presence and customer engagement.

Pros from reviewers

  • Effective Site Management: Sitefinity provides robust site management capabilities, including template management, document management, and page creation. It also offers a multi-site management feature, which is beneficial for managing multiple websites

  • Excellent Support: Sitefinity offers excellent team support and is considered a reliable Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) CMS. It also provides secure storage on Microsoft Azure's cloud, eliminating the need for constant updates or maintaining files and backups

  • Integration with Multiple Platforms: Sitefinity integrates well with multiple platforms such as Marketo and HubSpot, providing a broad range of content services. It also includes built-in CRM and API services

  • User-Friendly Interface: Sitefinity's user-friendly interface, including a drag-and-drop feature, makes it easy to use and brand with HTML and CSS. It also simplifies tasks like updating content, managing files, and maintaining the site

  • Customization and Learning Ease: Sitefinity allows for a lot of customization and is easy to learn compared to other .NET based CMS. It is updated frequently with features and fixes suggested by the community and can handle thousands of pages.

Cons from reviewers

  • Inconsistent backend interface: The backend interface isn't completely consistent yet, making some features difficult to use, especially during upgrades

  • Poor customer service: The customer service is poor, with issues such as serious security flaws requiring customers to pay for upgrades to safer versions.

  • Slow website during publishing: Publishing pages and making significant changes can temporarily slow down the website and visitors may see an Initializing message during this time

  • Lack of recent updates: The most significant drawback is the lack of recent updates from the developers, causing the tool to lag and become unresponsive during operation

  • High cost: Compared to other platforms like WordPress, Sitefinity is quite pricey and the cost can be unjustifiable if many of the features are not used

Effortlessly Construct Your New Website with Drag and Drop

I am pleased with my experience with Sitefinity. The support team is consistently helpful and quick to respond. The software is generally user-friendly, offering numerous page templates and a drag and drop feature that makes building page structures easier. I appreciate the ability to make edits at both page and template levels, especially when multiple pages need the same modification. However, I have encountered problems with unexpected logouts and unintentional page locks, which can be frustrating if I lack admin permissions to unlock pages. Despite this, the locked page feature is beneficial in preventing unwanted changes from being saved or published live.

Sitefinity: High Cost, Low Value? A Look at this CMS's Pros and Cons

Sitefinity isn't the worst CMS I've used, but it doesn't make my top three either. I think it could greatly benefit from being open-source and having more community support. My critique of it being based on Microsoft languages is more of a personal bias. I do appreciate its user-friendliness, especially the simple drag and drop style editing. However, Sitefinity lacks a robust community that provides helpful and timely responses. The documentation on their website is difficult to navigate unless you're an advanced user. Some settings are not intuitively located, and there's a licensing fee for a CMS that others provide for free. It's entirely built on Microsoft technologies, which could be a plus for some. When I run into a bug or issue, I find it hard to fix due to these factors, making simple tasks take longer than they should.

Feature-rich Sitefinity: A Sleek but Costly Website Hosting Solution

We switched to Sitefinity for our website hosting and the transition was seamless. It provides a variety of features such as ecommerce and check-out purchasing, and makes editing web pages simple. The design template is attractive, giving our website a modern and sleek look. However, the cost is a significant concern. We found ourselves not using many of the features we initially thought we needed, making the cost unjustifiable for us. Compared to WordPress, Sitefinity is quite pricey. Also, their page builders are not as user-friendly as WordPress and their content block features can be challenging for non-web developers in building webpages.

Paid Fixes for Sitefinity's Security Issues

Sitefinity is an improvement from our previous content management system, but that's not a high bar. The customer service is poor. They recently found serious security issues and decided that we, as customers, should pay for the upgrade to a safer version. The blog management feature is below average. Additionally, integrating marketing software like HubSpot with our website is a challenge with Sitefinity.
