A Delightful Unexpected Experience
I initially gave Kofax a one-star review after they bought Nuance, as there were significant teething problems. I was worried that tech support would decline, especially for older software versions, which often happens when one software company acquires another. However, to my surprise, Kofax's tech support for Nuance products has greatly improved since the purchase. I had a complex issue with a previous release of Ominpage. When I called the tech support line, I was quickly connected to a friendly human. Sourav patiently and skillfully identified and fixed the problem, despite my limited bandwidth and poor landline connection, which required several interruptions for downloads. We were able to reconnect quickly after the downloads were completed. In past tech support experiences, I often couldn't reconnect with the original agent if the session was interrupted and had to start over. This was a very pleasant surprise!

As a user, I consider Kofax Power PDF to be one of the best PDF readers, editors, and converters I've ever used. It's more affordable than Adobe and serves many purposes. My team and I use it extensively for our clients, sending them statements of their accounts/holdings. I particularly appreciate its encryption feature, as I find password protecting a document much easier than with Adobe PDF. Its editor is also very efficient, automatically detecting texts for editing. The Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is greatly enhanced and reads images well. However, I've had some difficulties with its electronic signatures. The process to electronically sign a document is somewhat complex and requires several steps. We switched to Kofax Power PDF because it's cheaper than Adobe and meets our requirements.

OCR Functionality Fails to Deliver as Promised
I'm having nothing but problems with Kofax Power PDF. It feels like a heavy burden when it doesn't fulfill its intended purpose. The company should provide a feature to search for specific error messages. They only offer 30 days of support before you have to buy the product. While it does have more features than Nuance and I appreciate the fresh interface, I'm disappointed with this new company that took over Nuance. The software consistently fails to convert a PDF to an OCR PDF. I've tried everything - uninstalling, reinstalling, disabling my firewall, allowing the software through my virus protection, but nothing seems to work. There are no search results for my error on their website or Google. I would recommend sticking with the Nuance version, it's more stable and reliable. I'm at a loss on how to resolve this issue and it's incredibly frustrating.
